Deusto Open Books

lntroduction. What is Deusto Open Books?

Deusto Open Books is a new way of approaching bibliographical production, which provides readers with online resources they can read, download and store, freely and straightforwardly.

Therefore, the titles under this name can be used for reference, disseminated and quoted – making prior reference to the author, and ensuring respect for the integrity of the work- without any kind of financial or legal limitation.

With this initiative, the University of Deusto seeks to offer a service designed to manage, preserve electronically and increase the external dissemination of digital material. This will make the dissemination of its research and academic activity more widely visible.

In addition, the Publications Service offers titles in traditional book format via Print On Demand. Thanks to this system, titles will always be available, regardless of the print run requested and the price in each case.

Tuning

libros tuning
The Tuning educational project was created in 1999 by the main European universities as a response to the challenge posed by the Bologna process and the European Higher Education Area. The aim was to adopt a system of easily readable and comparable degrees in all the signatory countries.

A total of 15 countries joined this initiative in its earliest stages. Then, the number of bodies and institutions involved was extended to 27 members of the European Union, and finally it reached Eastern Europe and Latin America. At present, the Tuning project is about to be implemented in USA, Africa, Australia, Japan and India, and it has a total of 58 countries taking part in it and publications in more than 17 languages.

The search for agreements, the respect for diversity and the joint work towards the achievement of common benchmarks, based on learning, competences, skills and abilities, are the mainstays of a project that also promotes greater quality, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by an increasing internationalisation in the university context.

These figures show the potential mobility and gathering capacity of the network.

The HumanitarianNet network seeks to enhance the work carried out by universities in the field of Humanitarian Development, including teaching, research, fieldwork, discussion and dissemination. Humanitarian Development is a relatively new academic field, which brings together a wide range of interrelated disciplines, interweaving sciences and humanities. Its main aim is to examine the reasons underlying humanitarian crises, and to formulate strategies for rehabilitation and development.

Cuadernos Penales José María Lidón
Cuadernos Penales José María Lidón
Cuadernos Penales José María Lidón
The Cuadernos Penales José María Lidón have a double aim. They seek to keep alive the memory of lecturer and judge José María Lidón, killed by ETA, since consigning him to oblivion would be like lessening the unbearable injustice of his death, and somehow, being its accomplice. Similarly, his memory is an occasion to bring together people from a range of professional backgrounds related to criminal law who share, as we share with him, the aim for laws that will increasingly contribute towards the creation of open spaces of freedom and equality and to making them real and effective for everybody. In this way, his memory will be twice as rewarding.

Notebooks on Human Rights
Notebooks on Human Rights
They are intended to reach a relatively widespread public and are now published in a smaller format. However, they uphold rigorous scholarly standards. Cuadernos Deusto de Derechos Humanos is a collection of five books compiled by the Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute each academic year. These original and new works, written in Spanish or Basque, address relevant and current issues concerning human rights.

The Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute is an academic institution that was created in 1997 and is related to the University of Deusto. It mainly seeks to work for a human rights culture, from a university perspective and a marked social and international approach.
